#07 Zero Image Pinhole Camera

Rūta and I went to Blue Moon Camera in Portland the other day just to browse the pretty shelves filed with old film cameras when I discovered something special! A new film camera! As a matter of fact they have many newly produced film cameras there, but this one was very special. See, this is a Zero Image Pinhole camera, it also happens to be one of the favorite cameras of her father, brilliant pinhole photographer Darius Kuzmickas.

While there we grabbed some Kodak B&W film and went to work making some portraits in the afternoon. Portraits, yes I know, not the usual subject matter of a pinhole camera. I am completely unconcerned with that. I like people, so, here are some shots of Rūta through the eyes of our new Pinhole camera.

First attempt, a little shaky, also I didn’t level the camera properly. It was a 2 second exposure, but as a fun first shot not bad I think!

I need a level for the top of the camera CLEARLY

Should be noted Rūta is a spectacular model for these. The shutter is open for 2 minutes in these two so she’s staying quite still for this.

This one is in my top three from the day, I rather love it. the exposure time was around 1 minute on the 400 speed film.

I increased the exposure time here by about 15 seconds.

I decided to bring the exposure back a few seconds. One of these will be perfect for a future album cover.

Got a little closer with the camera. I’m impressed with how sharp this camera is.

And lastly a shot of Rūta’s families kitchen as she cleaned in preparation for her family to arrive home after vacation. Today we will take the Pinhole out again! this time with color film, and I will capture sound as well for the next post!
